Three months after the road was finished, Governor Macquarie travelled over it. He was anxious to see the land west of the mountains.

The successful crossing of the Blue Mountains was the first important land exploration in Australia. The settlement in Sydney could now spread across the mountains and the settlers could begin to use the land to the West.
