The group's supplies were now very low. Their clothing and shoes were worn and everyone was feeling sick. However, as they started on the return journey, the explorers were happy because they had found a way across the Blue Mountains.
The return trip took just under five days. They had not marked their path from the Nepean River to where Springwood is today, so they had trouble finding the right way back.
On 6 June they forded the Nepean River and returned to their homes.
